Domain transfer with final verification
Transfer a domain without taking your site or email offline
We follow the transfer from the AuthInfo/EPP code to the final DNS and mail verification, with timings and conditions stated for each extension, .it included. The domain stays yours at every stage: the provider and the management change, not the ownership.
How to transfer a domain, step by step
Explicit responsibilities at every step: what you do, what we do, and what the registry decides.
Does the site stay online during the transfer?
Unlock and get the AuthInfo/EPP code from your current provider
In your current provider's panel you disable the transfer lock and request the AuthInfo/EPP code. If you are not sure where to find them, we walk you through it; issuing the code is an obligation of the outgoing provider.
Extension requirement checks
Every extension has its own rules: registrant eligibility (for a .it, the .it Registry's rules: EEA, UK, Switzerland, San Marino or Vatican City), character constraints, and possible minimum waits after a recent registration or transfer. We check them before sending the offer, so surprises surface immediately and not mid-transfer.
Request and written offer
You tell us the domain and your current provider through the request form. You receive a written offer with the transfer cost and the renewal price, and we tell you whether, for that extension, the transfer adds a year of validity or not. The AuthInfo/EPP code is only needed to start the transfer, after you sign.
Registry approval and waiting
We submit the transfer to the registry. Some extensions require an email confirmation from the registrant or the outgoing provider's approval; the timing is decided by the registry, not by us, and we keep you updated on the status.
Final DNS and mail verification
Once the transfer completes, we verify that the DNS zone is complete and that the site and email respond as before — mail records included (MX, SPF, DKIM, DMARC). The job closes with this verification, not with the provider change alone.
What to prepare before starting
Ten minutes of preparation avoids most blockers. You will need:
- Access to your current provider's panel, to unlock the domain and request the AuthInfo/EPP code.
- A valid, monitored registrant email address: some registries send the confirmation request there.
- The domain's expiry date: if it is close, consider renewing with the current provider first.
- A copy of the current DNS zone (A, CNAME, MX, TXT records): we rebuild and verify it with you before the switch.
- The list of services tied to the domain — site, mailboxes, any applications — to plan the final verification.
Edge cases, stated up front
We would rather tell you now what can complicate a transfer than have you discover it mid-process.
Timing varies by registry
Each registry has its own procedures and timings: some transfers complete in hours, others take days or need the outgoing provider's explicit approval. We do not promise a date: we report the real status of the transfer.
Domain close to expiry
A transfer started right before expiry may not complete in time. In those cases we suggest renewing with the current provider first and transferring calmly afterwards: it costs one renewal and avoids losing the name.
Expired domain or redemption
An expired domain is often not transferable until it is restored. The redemption phase carries registry-defined recovery costs, usually well above a renewal: they must be settled with the current provider before a transfer is possible.
Rejection or missing approval
A wrong AuthInfo/EPP code, a lock still active or an unanswered confirmation email make the transfer fail without penalties: you fix the cause and resubmit. If the transfer does not go through, the amount paid is handled as a refund or credit.
Domain transfer prices by extension
Launch prices for the transfer and the following renewal of each extension. We reconfirm them in your written offer before starting the transfer.
| Extension | Transfer (€) | Subsequent renewal (€/year) |
|---|---|---|
| .com | 12 | 14 |
| .it | 9 | 11 |
